Make way Boracay Island as Hinugtan Beach is now ready to introduce itself to the tourist world. Situated in Brgy. Bel-is, Buruanga, Aklan, it is just a approximately 30-45 minutes away from Boracay Island.
From Caticlan, Malay, Aklan you could either ride by tricycle or habal-habal to Brgy. Alegria, Buruanga, Aklan which is the Jump off point and from there, it is a 15 minute boat ride (you have to charter a private boat) going to Hinugtan Beach. Alternatively, you could charter a motorized banca directly from Boracay Island, boat ride is around 45 minutes. As you travel by boat, you would pass by the now world renowned Ariel’s Point (a cliff diving resort).
Hinugtan beach is only very small with a short white sand stretch. Its waters however are crystal clear with fine sand and aside from swimming, it is also ideal for other beach and water activities like snorkeling, kayaking, volleyball and alike, sans the huge crowd. In times you can have the beach all by yourself.
There are only few resorts which offer overnight stay in the area, proof that it is not yet that commercialized. If you got the chance to stay over night or at least make it up to late afternoon, indulge yourself to local living and watch the locals scavenge for some shells (the act is locally known as “panginhas”).
